Gov Abiodun absent, as Oluomo again becomes Ogun Assembly Speaker

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The Ogun State House of Assembly has re-elected the immediate past speaker, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo as the 10th speaker of the State house of Assembly.

The Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun was however conspicuously absent at the inauguration held Tuesday, at the Assembly chamber, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

After about four hours of intermittent breaks on the account of security threat, the Clark of the Assembly, Deji Adeyemo therefore called the Assembly to order, while calling for nomination for the election to the office of Speaker and Deputy speaker.

Hon. Lamidi Musefiu from Ado-Odo Ota State Constituency 2 nominated the immediate past speaker, which was seconded by another lawmaker.

In the absence of further nominations, the Clark therefore declared Oluomo as Speaker elect.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ajayi Bolanle from Yewa South State constituency was thereafter nominated by Hon. Bakare Oluwayemisi which was duly seconded by Hon. Odunuga Olusegun Kaka.

The election of other principal officers into the 10th State Assembly followed, just as it drew the curtain on the intrigues that has stalled the inauguration for about a week.

Recall that the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun was allegedly disposed to returning Oluomo as the speaker, while feelers has it that majority of the members-elect which comprises of 9 opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) wanted Hon. Oludaisi Elemide representing Odeda constituency.
