Gov AbdulRazaq distributes 73,364 free textbooks, sports kits statewide

Kwara Governor Distributes Multi-Million Naira Educational Materials and Sports Kits

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday, launched the distribution of multi-million-naira instructional materials and sports kits to pupils in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The initiative, aimed at strengthening basic education, saw the distribution of 73,365 textbooks covering English, Mathematics, Computer Studies, and other core subjects. Other materials included 12,780 assorted primary school library books, 100 special education materials, 260 sets of Early Childhood Care, Development and Education (ECCDE) plastic chairs and tables, 3,931 sports equipment items, 344 sets of agricultural tools, and 78 tablets to enhance digital learning.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the initiative reaffirms the administration’s strong commitment to improving basic education in the state.

Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated that his government is dedicated to eradicating the menace of out-of-school children, ensuring that education remains accessible to every child in Kwara State.

“It is the administration’s belief that the menace of out-of-school children will soon be a thing of the past, given its strong commitment to education development in the state,” he said.

He added that the free distribution of textbooks was designed to ease the financial burden on parents, especially amid the rising cost of instructional materials.

The Governor further highlighted some of his administration’s key interventions in the education sector, including regular recruitment and promotion of teachers, upgrading school infrastructure, and strengthening policies to improve learning outcomes.

He also commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and other key stakeholders for their continued support in advancing education in the state.

Chairman of the Kwara House Committee on Education, Hon. Muhammed Boriya Salihu, described the event as another historic milestone in the development of basic education in the state. He praised Governor AbdulRazaq for consistently investing in education and bridging the gaps in critical sectors.

“With this and many other developmental projects, it is clear that Kwara State has moved beyond the challenges of the past. The progress we have seen in several sectors, especially education, is commendable,” Boriya said.

Also speaking, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman, Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, lauded the Governor for his unwavering commitment to improving basic education and the holistic development of schoolchildren.

“These materials will undoubtedly enhance the standard of education and sports activities in our basic schools, bringing relief to parents and pupils across the state,” Adaramaja stated.

“We firmly believe that education is the bedrock of development. Our goal is to equip our children with the right skills and knowledge to become future leaders who will drive positive change in our state and beyond.”

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including: Alhaji Saadu Salau – Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor; Hon. Aliyu Kora Sabi – Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development; Mrs. Bake Olarewaju – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education; Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin – APC Chieftain; Alhaji Ibrahim Danmeigoro – Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam); Coach Bola Magaji – Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission; Alhaji Muhammed Baba Saliu – President, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPS); Traditional rulers, local government education secretaries, and other education stakeholders.
