Kwara State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq says his administration has fulfilled social contract with Kwarans through the deployment of state’s resources in the infrastructural and socio-economic development of the state.
AbdulRazaq stated this in Ilorin during the official commissioning of 4.779 Km Yebumot-Adeta-Oloje road in Ilorin west local government council area of the state.
Two roads were renamed after two giants from Ilorin in honour of their contributions to growth and the prestige of the capital city.
Yebumot Adeta is named after retired Major-General Mohammed Abdullahi Adangba, while Adeta to Oloje Road is rechristened Sheikh Yahya Murtadha Agodi — a late prominent Muslim scholar
The Governor also used the event to officially commission the multi billion Flower Garden Relaxation Centre, Ilorin for the benefit of the residents.
He, however, said, “One of the social contracts we have with the people is to deploy resources to improve the condition of living through provision of infrastructure.
“The launching this morning of the 4.779 Km Yebumot-Adeta-Oloje road satisfies this key objective.”
AbdulRazaq added, “Time will be reduced within the axis, volume of trade will rise, the value properties will appreciate, and quality of life will be enhanced, among other benefits we can think of.
“I thank the people of this community for their patience while the job lasted.
“We acknowledge the difficulties that came with the delays associated with sudden inflationary trends and the renegotiation of the terms of contract, among other challenges. All of that is over now.
“I urge community folks to take responsibility for public facilities. The Ministry of Works and Transport will continue to enlighten the people about road management and a need for everyone to own and protect public infrastructures in their domains.
“On that note, I inaugurate the Yebumot-Adeta-Oloje road for the benefit of our people and in continuation of our efforts to deepen socioeconomic growth.”
Also speaking at the event, the state’s Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr AbdulQuawiy Olododo appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for his vision for a modern Kwara and for continuous support for the Ministry to discharge its responsibilities.
“This project is more than just a road; it is a symbol of progress, a testament to this Administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, and a beacon of hope for a brighter future,” he said.
“This road is more than just a transportation artery; it is a lifeline connecting our people, businesses, and communities. It is a catalyst for economic growth and sustainable development and a symbol of our unrelenting pursuit of excellence.”
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who was represented by the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr Abubakar Usman Jos, applauded AbdulRazaq for his impactful projects and programmes.
The President Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumin Abdulmalik, said the Governor is a man with a good sense of history with many accomplishments in public service.
“This project is more than just a road project. It is a monumental project. For some of us who were here in 1967 when the late father of the Governor opened this axis up with the establishment of Ilorin College Ilorin (ICI), we knew what this road was and we now know what the road is with this project,” the IEDPU President said.
