Good governance, security, crucial to fundamental human rights —Oyetola

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has identified good governance and security as twin prerequisites for the entrenchment of fundamental human rights in any society.

Governor Oyetola made this statement at the 2021 International Human Rights Day Celebration, themed: “Equality-Reducing Inequalities, Advancing Human Rights” held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The Governor who was represented by the Director General, Abuja Liaison Office, Rt. Hon Olanike Omoworare, explained that the substance of good governance is exemplified in the provision of basic services and needs such as adequate security, roads, food , power, housing, jobs and all that make life meaningful for citizens and empower them to fulfill their potentials.

The Osun helmsman added that protection of lives and property is the basic duty of every government,adding that when there is insecurity, a reign of terror, fear and disorder will be unleashed on the people.

He further posited that, “regular dialogue among government, nongovernmental organisations and the people remain the way to go to put the nation on the lane of good governance, security and respect for human rights.”
