Good conduct, hardwork vital to promotion in service — Customs C-G

The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service, retired Col. Hameed Ali, says good conduct and hardwork are part of requirements for promotion of officers in the Service.

Ali said this while decorating some newly promoted officers of the service in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Board of the service recently approved the appointment of three Assistant Comptrollers- General (ACGs).

Similarly, the  Customs Spokesperson, Mr Timi Bomodi and 1,4 89 other senior officers of general duty and support staff were promoted to various ranks.

The Customs boss said besides passing promotion examination, some of the criteria in the operational procedure of the service for promotion were character and hardwork.

According to him, the service is strict about ensuring that officers get promoted based on merit.

He said, “If you work hard, maintain good conduct and pass your promotion examination, you will definitely be promoted as an officer.”

While congratulating the newly appointed and promoted officers, Ali, said “promotion comes with responsibility and as you grow in rank, you become more visible.

“As such, you are expected to put in more effort and conduct yourselves properly.”

Ali further said Nigeria was depending on the service for adequate revenue generation, adding that officers must put in their best to ensure that the service met its revenue target.

He said one of the ways the service would achieve that was to ensure trade facilitation.

“I am proud to say so far, our officers are doing very well and our attitude is gradually changing and please whatever you do remember God is watching,” he said.

The Customs boss assured that he would continue to work to bequeath a service that all Nigerians would be proud of.

Meanwhile, the newly promoted officers expressed their commitment to taking the service to an enviable height.

Assistant Comptroller-General, Greg Itoto and Comptroller Musa Omale, who spoke on behalf of the officers, said the elevation was a prompting to do more.

They said they would work to ensure reform, restructuring and increased revenue generation.
