Gender Equality: Minister for Women Affairs honours Perm Sec

The Federal Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, has bestowed on the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry  with the title “He-for-She” few days to its 21st Council Meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State the host city.

The Minister while briefing the newsmen on the event ahead of the 21st National Council Meeting on Women Affairs at the Ministry’s Conference Room on Thursday in Abuja, said the Permanent Secretary needs to lead his team of directors to Uyo as a He-for-She.

Honourable Tallen said the host state was chosen by delegates at the 19th Regular Council Meeting held in Akure, Ondo State in 2029.

The Minister who thanked Governor Emmanuel  Udom for accepting to host this year equality summit with the theme “Gender Equality: A Panacea for Enduring Security and Sustainable Economic Development in the Post-Covid-19 Era”, noted that women are not rubbing shoulders with the men rather can only achieve when working hand-in-hand withe the men.

She however advocates for more women to  be elected into various offices, where they can be heard and defend laws that will affect their children and the society at large.

She said the meeting will bring together Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Development Planners, Donor Communities, Programme Managers, Representatives of Security sector, Civil Society of Organizations and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the 36 states in which total of 185 memoranda will be brainstormed during the six day long event.

“Gender inequality, Child education and protection, women participation and socal inclusion in the society are too on the agenda to be brainstormed upon by participants”, she said.

Hon Tallen explained that  with the support from partners, the ministry is poised more than ever before to change the narratives as “we rigorously pursue the entrenchment of gender equity and equality in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.

While thanking correspondents from various media houses for factual coverage, the Minister also listed some categories of awards in a bit to acknowledge the contributions of its partners who have supported the Ministry’s agenda in various ways as part of the celebration that will take place in Uyo.

The Permanent Secretary of Women Affairs, Engr. Oludunso Olusesan Adebiyi, in his votes of thank, appreciated the Minister for the honour bestowed on him. He said it is a rare previledge and promised to do his best.

“I am here to serve; to serve my nation, to serve my God and to serve my principal. Whatever God has blessed me with, I will use it for the delivery of your mandate.

Engr. Adebiyi assured that he will aid to fast track the woman empowerment Programmes at various forms and also collaborate with the world bank representative  and put things in place.

The Perm Sec who attributed the insecurity bedevilling the country to women not been Empowered, said “Empower a woman; you have taken care of the future, programming their children for success, prevent future disaster”, he emphasized.
