Gbajabiamila states that the FG will maintain its focus on food security
Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to diversifying the economy through significant investments in agriculture. He made this statement during an interactive session with Mr. Cornelius Adebayo, Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigeria Agriculture and Land Development Agency (NALDA) on Wednesday. This visit was part of his tour of agencies under the State House’s supervision.
Gbajabiamila highlighted the government’s focus on agriculture and food security, urging NALDA to continue innovating, including developing greenhouses and expanding arable land cultivation across Nigeria.
At the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Gbajabiamila praised the agency for saving the Federal Government N1.7 trillion from 2009 to 2022 by closing procurement loopholes. He noted that the BPP Act is undergoing a review to align with international best practices, reduce corruption, and streamline processes. He also mentioned plans to review staff remuneration and hinted that President Bola Tinubu plans to inaugurate the long-awaited National Council on Procurement (NCP).
Gbajabiamila commended the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) for contributing over N1 trillion to the Federal Government since 1999 and stressed the need for further improvements. He promised support for achieving optimal performance and noted that BPE’s revenue from privatization projects in early 2024 fell short of expectations.
At the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Gbajabiamila reaffirmed the government’s dedication to developing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, including electricity generation. He acknowledged the importance of incorporating nuclear energy into Nigeria’s energy mix to address the growing demand.
The Chief of Staff underscored the role of these agencies in advancing the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda in economic and development sectors. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to strengthening these institutions and addressing their challenges, including staff remuneration and office space.
Gbajabiamila’s visit, which included stops at NALDA, BPP, BPE, NAEC, and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), was the first of its kind under the current administration. It followed a recent retreat for Heads of State House Agencies aimed at reinforcing the administration’s dedication to institutional strength and reducing governance costs.
