Gardener in court for allegedly stealing appliances from children’s centre


A 30- year-old gardener, Chijioke Eze, on Thursday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court, Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly stealing appliances from a children’s centre.

The police charged Eze who resides in Sabon-Lugbe, Airport road, with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Emeka Ihekoronye, told the court that the complainant, Dominic Ufer of Lugbe zone 7, Airport road reported the matter at the police station on October 2.

Ihekoronye said that the defendant, who was a gardener at the Centre for Childcare and Youth Development, stole one LG air conditioner, one standing fan, iron rods and air-conditioner compressor belonging to the company.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

Ibrahim ordered that the surety must undertake to forfeit the bail bond if the defendant jumps bail.

He said that the surety must provide valid means of identification to the satisfaction if the court.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 21 for hearing.
