
Fulani herdsmen menace: Bayelsa Govt summons stakeholders to emergency meeting

Due to the escalating activities of Fulani herdsmen in Bayelsa State, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has scheduled a high-priority meeting to address security challenges in affected communities.
The development was made known in a statement by Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the meeting, set for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, will take place at 10:00am at the DSP Alamieyesigba Memorial Banquet Hall, Yenagoa, with attendees expected to arrive by 9:45am.
It was revealed that the meeting is aimed at fostering dialogue and charting a course to mitigate the unwholesome activities reported in various local government areas.
The invited participants include first-class traditional rulers, paramount rulers, chairpersons of Community Development Committees (CDCs), youth leaders, and women leaders from over 100 communities spanning six local government areas: Ogbia, Yenagoa, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Southern Ijaw. Key communities listed for representation include Elebele, Igbogene, Sampou, Ammassoma, and Sagbama.
The statement read: “As a result of the recent increase in the unwholesome activities of Fulani herdsmen in many communities across the state, the following have been invited to a meeting with the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawerence Ewhrudjakpo:
“1. All first-Class Traditional Rulers in the affected clans, the Paramount Rulers, Chairmen, of Community Development Committees (CDC), Youth Leaders and Women leader of the underlisted Communities

The invited participants include representatives from key communities such as Elebele, Igbogene, Sampou, Ammassoma, and Sagbama. The meeting is expected to commence at 10:00 am, with attendees expected to arrive by 9:45 am.
