Fuel importers will hinder Dangote- Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has suggested that those benefiting from fuel importation are likely to obstruct the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Obasanjo’s comments follow allegations by Aliko Dangote that certain groups are trying to sabotage his $20 billion refinery project. He noted that some importers are frustrated by potential competition from the refinery and are taking measures to hinder its progress.

Obasanjo also criticized Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil, neglecting gas and agriculture, and recalled his failed attempts to persuade Shell to manage Nigeria’s refineries due to corruption and mismanagement concerns. He criticized President Bola Tinubu’s abrupt removal of fuel subsidies without addressing the accompanying hardships and stressed the need for a shift from a transactional to a transformational economy to build investor confidence.
