Fubara keeps mum after meeting Tinubu behind closed doors

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday has kept mum after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fubara, who arrived at the Villa around 5.35 pm, left over an hour later refused to speak to journalists about the purpose of his visit to the President.

He simply told journalists that “It was a private visit.”

Although the agenda of his visit was not made public, it may not be unconnected with the political crisis in Rivers State.

Thursday’s meeting came weeks after the Governor met the President alongside his estranged political godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

President Tinubu had on December 18, 2023 intervened in the political crisis between the governor and the FCT minister.

According to an eight-point resolution signed at the end of the meeting, the President directed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team regarding the political crisis in the state be withdrawn immediately.

Those who signed the resolution included Fubara; Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Ordu; the FCT Minister, Wike; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Speaker, Rivers State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; PDP Chairman, Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka and APC Chairman, Rivers State, Tony Okocha.

According to the directive, Fubara was mandated to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill he had earlier presented to the four-member state House of Assembly to a full House.
