Fubara affirms strong public support amid infrastructure drive

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed that he enjoys unwavering support from the people of the state, attributing their confidence in his leadership to his administration’s commitment to public welfare and infrastructural development.

Governor Fubara made this assertion on Friday during the inauguration of the newly revitalised Fire Service Substation at Rumuodomaya, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Addressing a large gathering, Fubara expressed satisfaction at the unveiling of the facility, which is the third fire station to be commissioned under his administration’s drive to improve public safety and emergency response services.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to prioritising the safety and well-being of our people. The essence of governance is to protect lives and property, and this fire station will serve that purpose effectively,” he stated.

The Rumuodomaya Fire Service Substation, originally constructed during the tenure of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, had been abandoned for years before being rehabilitated under Fubara’s leadership.

The renovation included the construction of 54 office spaces, new staff quarters, and the acquisition of modern firefighting equipment, including state-of-the-art fire trucks and a 45,000-litre water tank to ensure efficient emergency response.

Governor Fubara commended the residents of Obio/Akpor for their steadfast support, acknowledging their role in his administration’s success. He further expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their continued trust, stating: “We appreciate your unwavering confidence in this administration. Your trust is built on the truth, and we will continue to work in your best interest.”

Elder statesman Hanny Woko lauded Governor Fubara’s efforts, highlighting the crucial role of a functional fire service in any progressive society.

“A state without an effective fire service is vulnerable to disasters. This project will significantly enhance fire response capabilities, ensuring that lives and property in Rumuodomaya and its environs are better protected,” Woko remarked.

He also called for unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Rivers State, urging citizens to prioritise peace and collective progress over division.

Dr Samuel Anya, the State Commissioner for Special Duties, provided additional insight into the project, noting that the Rumuodomaya Fire Service Substation had remained neglected for years before Governor Fubara’s intervention. He stressed that the governor’s proactive approach would significantly strengthen fire response services across the state.

Similarly, Ichechi Amadi, Head of Local Government Administration for Obio/Akpor, praised the governor’s dedication to restoring critical infrastructure. He noted that the newly refurbished fire station, now equipped with modern firefighting apparatus, would enhance the effectiveness of personnel, ensuring that emergency response times are greatly improved.

Governor Fubara’s commitment to revamping public infrastructure aligns with his broader vision of a safer and more resilient Rivers State.
