FRSC urges motorists, other road users against reckless driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command has urged motorists to avoid preventable carnages loss of life and property to road crashes in the state.

The State Sector Commander, Ezekiel SonAllah gave the charge during the Ember Months  Flag-Off campaign held on Tuesday at Ado Motor Park,  Akure.

SonAllah, who said that FRSC had deployed all human and materials resources to ensure safety on Nigerians road said the command was aimed at stemming the tide of preventable death on the road especially in the last quarter of the year.

His words: “The country is currently experiencing high-level of insecurity and ravaging coronavirus pandemic which has claimed many lives in almost two years.

“We cannot afford as a nation further loss of lives and property especially on our roads being the most used means of commuting.

“I, therefore, call on all stakeholders in the road transport subsector of the economy to support the FRSC in its drive as a lead agency to eradicate preventable carnages and loss of property to road traffic crashes.

“Available statistics worldwide indicate that effect of road traffic crashes on a country’s economy is enormous  especially in developing countries like Nigeria it, therefore, behoves on all of us to be resolute and united in the course,” he said.

SonAllah appreciated the Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for his untiring efforts in the provision of road infrastructure geared towards ensuring road experience to the people of the state.

The Permanent Secretary of General Administration, Office of the Governor, Mr Michael Oshodi who represented Governor Akeredolu charged road users to imbibe rules and regulations of road traffic in the state.

According to him, the present government will do its best to keep road safer and continue to ensure that all state roads are always secure from kidnapper and Banditry.

He said, “I urge all motorists including commercial motorcycles to be security conscious because this is the only way to keep the society safe.

“Our investment on Amotekun is not that we wanted to compete with other security agencies but to ensure maximum security in our dear state.”

Mr Enikanoselu Megbowon, State Secretary of Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and Mr Bello Issac, Oyemekun Branch Unit Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) promised to uphold the rules and regulations of the road.

The duo, therefore, called on all their members to avoid over loading, speeding and shun whatever could cause crashes on the roads.

Representatives of Commissioner of Police, Immigration, Customs, Correctional Services, NYSC Coordinator, and Mr Hammed Abodunrin, State Commandant of NSCDC were present at the event.
