FRSC returns N1.6m to road crash victims’ families in Bauchi

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command has said it returned the sum of N1,600,000 to victims of a road crash that claimed the lives of four people at Rinji village, along Bauchi-Jos road in Toro Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

The Sector Commander, Mr Patrick Ikaba, disclosed this in Bauchi on Tuesday, while speaking with newsmen, saying three other people were seriously injured in the crash that involved eight people.

Ikaba said that only one person was unhurt, and it took the personnel of the corps a few minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash to clear the site.

He said the auto crash involved one private Mercedes Benz and one commercial Opel Vectra vehicle, where three males and a female lost their lives, adding that the sum of N1.6 million was recovered from the bodies of three deceased persons.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps swung into action and carried out a rescue operation and cleared the crash scene. In the process of carrying out the rescue, they recovered a huge sum of money on the bodies of three of the occupants of the vehicles but unfortunately, the amount recovered were found on the dead bodies.

“One of them was carrying the sum of N1,648,500 while the other was carrying N23,500 and the last person was with N8,700 and the money had been released to their relatives after proper identification,” he said.

The Sector Commander also said that other properties apart from the money recovered from the crash have also been released to the next of kins of the deceased.

He however, advised motorists to always be conscious of traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads.

He said, “I want to use this opportunity to express our gratitude to the FRSC especially, with their quick response to the crash which led to the recovery of the money and other items before people with bad intentions got there.

“I collected the money and handed it over to the wife of the deceased who has three children, two boys and a baby girl,” he said.
