FRSC restate resolve to ensure zero tolerance for road crashes in Ekiti

The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has reiterated its resolve to ensure zero carnage on roads in Ekiti not only during the Christmas holidays, but after.

The Area Commander, RS8.2C2, Obadore Area Command of Ekiti, Deputy Corps Commander Samuel Adekolajo, said that the resolve was in keeping with the mandate of the Sector Commander, Mr Elijah Olusola.

Adekolajo, who spoke at a special end of year sensitisation rally for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ikole-Ekiti on Sunday, advised the commercial drivers to obey traffic rules and regulations.

He also cautioned the drivers against overloading violation, concept of defensive driving, use of safety helmet, vehicle maintenance, dangerous driving, as well as traffic light and lane discipline among others.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Unit Commander, RS8.26 Ikole-Ekiti Unit Command, Chief Route Commander Solomon Mama, raised serious concern on the attitude of motorists around the Ikole axis to general safety on the road.

Mama warned on the need to have attitudinal change, and adopt best global practices to restore sanity on the highway.

He chided some of the drivers for lacking patience, exhibiting disregard for traffic regulations and flagrant disobedience to traffic control personnel on roads in the area.

Mama urged all relevant stakeholders to work with the command in order to reduce carnage on the country’s highways.

In attendance at the event were stakeholders, representatives of the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Ikole Area Command, the DPO, Nigeria Police, Ikole Division, the Divisional Officer, NSCDC, and the Commander, Western Nigeria Security Network, code named Amotekun.

Others were chairmen of various transport unions, including commercial motorcycle riders..
