FRSC partners stakeholders on training, retraining of drivers in Osun
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will continue to partner stakeholders on the creation of workstations for the training and re-training of drivers to help ensure safety on the highways.
The Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, said this during the inauguration of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Driving School and Drivers’ Licence Centre on Thursday in Ile-Ife, Osun.
Oyeyemi noted that the OAU Driving School located in an academic environment would help to improve decorum on the highways and also bring about safety standards in the transport system.
According to him, the initiative which was culminated by the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) , will open more opportunities to private partnerships.
Reports said that the OAU Driving School with registration number: (TOI/RTV/141) is registered with the Osun State Government and received its approval from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in October 2020.
Oyeyemi said, “Driving schools are now becoming models which must be given consideration to help train and retrain drivers to ensure safety on the highways.
” I want to thank the Vice -Chancellor for the wonderful initiative, being the first University to have a workstation and driving school, and that will give the institution’s undergraduates the ability to leverage on the opportunity at their corridor ,” he said
The Corps Marshal also commended the Osun Government for its support in ensuring that accidents on the highways were reduced .
He appealed to the state government to create more workstations across the state, adding that the commission would provide the necessary equipment and apparatus needed for them to start operations.
” I believe if the state government can look into the area of creating more workstations, that will bring more internally generated revenue for the state.
” Also , the state government should look into the area of creating more driving schools across the three senatorial districts in the state , ” Oyeyemi said.
In his remarks , the Governor of Osun , Mr Gboyega Oyetola , commended the FRSC for reducing carnages on the highways, especially, in the state.
Oyetola said that his administration would look into the areas itemised by the Corps Marshal through private partnership and support from the FRSC.
He appealed to motorists to be more careful when using the highways in order to avoid any form of accidents that might lead to loss of lives and property .
The Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede , praised the efforts of the state government and the FRSC for ensuring that the initiative was a huge success.
“The university has been benefitting from the state government since the inception of the administration of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola.
” The present administration was magnanimous enough to look into the huge tax being owed by the university authorities, we are indeed grateful.”
He said that the institution would ensure that drivers applying for driving licence and training at the driving school in the university would appear physically.
He said that this would ensure that only healthy and well fitted individuals were enrolled for the training.
