FRSC deploys over 30 heavy-duty tow trucks, ambulances in Oyo for Easter safety

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State, Joshua Adekanye announced on Saturday in Ibadan the deployment of over 30 heavy-duty tow trucks and ambulances on state highways in preparation for the Easter celebration.

Adekanye stated that this deployment was aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe Easter celebration for road users.

Additionally, he mentioned that the FRSC had enlisted the assistance of Special Marshalls to collaborate with FRSC officers, enhancing efforts to achieve an accident-free holiday.

Furthermore, the sector commander highlighted the thorough training and instructions provided to FRSC officers and Special Marshalls to facilitate the free flow of traffic during and after the festive period.

Adekanye urged motorists to prioritise safety by avoiding speeding and maintaining lane discipline while traveling on the highways.

He emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic signs and cautioned against driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The FRSC’s proactive measures and collaboration with motorists aim to promote road safety and prevent accidents during the Easter celebration in Oyo State.

“We want motorists to cooperate with us by obeying laid down traffic signs and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” he said.

Recall that motor parks in Ibadan metropolis witnessed slight increase in the volume of passengers traveling to celebrate Easter with their families and loved ones.

A passenger traveling to Osogbo by car from Ibadan, Mrs Janet Adeyemi, said that the drivers have slightly increased transport fare from N2,500 to N3,000.

On his part, a driver at Ojoo Bus terminal, Mr Badru Akintola, said that drivers could not charge high transport fares due to the current economic hardship in the country.He added that the slight increase in fare was for the people with extra luggages.

It was gathered that some passengers, who could not afford the fare were seen leaving the parks and moving along the expressway, hoping to get cheaper means of transportation, locally known as ‘Soole.
