FRSC arrest suspected car thieves in Niger, recovers stolen vehicles

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it has arrested two persons for attempting to register two stolen vehicles in different parts of the state.

The suspects (name withheld) stole the vehicles in Ibadan and Abuja and had since been handed over to the police for prosecutions.

Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, the state FRSC Sector Commander, told newsmen in Minna on Friday that the suspects were arrest at Suleja and Chanchaga Local Government Areas at the Corps registration departments.

Tsukwam said on Wednesday, the suspect approach Minna registration department to register a Toyota Corolla with plate number MNA 252 TT said to belong to Maryam Ayawa of SW 189D Hospital Road Minna.

He explained that on searching for the stolen vehicle chassis number on their website, they got a feedback that it has been registered.

The registration department verified that the chassis of the vehicle was registered with the number plate FKJ 23 BP and the primary owner’s was confirmed through his mobile phone.

The owner confirmed that the vehicle was stolen in 2015 where he parked it in Ibadan.

Similarly on Sept. 20th the suspect attempted to register a Toyota Camry, 2002 Model, with number plate SUL 32 EA said to belong to Ibrahim Tijjani of Federal Housing Authority, Abuja.

”While logging the chassis number, it kept bouncing back and the feedback from FRSC portal was that the vehicle chassis number has been registered.

“We verify the chassis number of the vehicle was registered with the number plate RBC 175 EH and the primary owner was contacted through mobile number. The owner confirmed that the vehicle was stolen in Feb. 2021,” he said.

The sector commander lauded the efforts of the personnel in the registration department for demonstrating high sense of professionalism leading to the arrest of the suspects.

“We have since handed the two suspects to the Niger Police command for more investigation and prosecutions,” he said.
