France announces Renard’s successor amid links to the super eagles

The French Football Federation has announced Laurent Bonadei as Hervé Renard’s successor as head coach of the France women’s team. Bonadei, who has served as Renard’s assistant since 2019, previously worked with him during his tenure with the Saudi Arabia men’s team and followed him to France last year. Bonadei’s contract extends through the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with an option for extension.

Bonadei expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’m honored and proud of the trust the Federation has placed in me. Leading the national team is a significant responsibility that I approach with dedication and seriousness. I am following in the footsteps of Hervé Renard, with whom I have worked closely over the past 17 months.”

Amidst these developments, there is speculation that Renard may return to Africa for his next role, having previously managed teams in Zambia, Angola, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco. He has been prominently linked to the vacant Nigeria head coach position, a role also being pursued by former Sweden coach Janne Andersson.

Earlier this year, the Ivory Coast sought to temporarily hire Renard for the Africa Cup of Nations, but the request was declined by the French Football Federation. Reports also surfaced about Egypt’s interest in Renard, though the position eventually went to Hossam Hassan.
