The Youth Empowerment Foundation (YEF), in collaboration with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in 2021 trained 55 indigent and unemployed youths in Lagos and Abuja, in vocational skills.
Mr Omoniyi Iyanda, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting Manager, FCMB, at the opening of the training on Tuesday, in Lagos, said the training would reduce unemployment and youth restiveness in the country.
The training tagged: “Empowered for the Future,” which was launched in 2016, is to empower indigent, jobless and out of school Nigerian youth, to build and prepare them for the future.
He said: “We have trained and empowered the youths in different vocations of life.
“We have proven track records of the successful transformation of the youths that have benefited from the previous editions.
“These youths are making significant contributions to the society, they have become self reliant and even employers of labour
“So, we are very satisfied with the successful rate of this partnership and training,” Iyanda said.
Also speaking, Mr Tony Eleme, the Programme Officer of YEF, said the training would impact skills and knowledge on how to manage business and make money.
Eleme urged the youth to be positive, hard working and shun crime related cases.
“My message to the youths is that it is good to be hard working.
“The situation in Nigeria is not the worst, therefore, there is no excuse not to get yourself engaged in something positive.
“Many youths believe that the only way to escape poverty is to engage in an unscrupulous way and some common crime related cases.ibwant to tell you that to you can make your money or make a living in a legitimate way.
“At YEF, we are always open to listen and welcome any youth who wants to make something tangible and positive for his or herself.
“We can always guide and provide the templates for such youth,” he said.
