Foundation donates cash to pediatric cancer patients at LASUTH
Cancer Enlightenment and Support Foundation (CESUF) a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has donated cash to cancer patients at the Pediatric Ward of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Elder Adegboyega Adepitan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of CESUF, said this in a statement signed by Ms Oluwaseyi Adewale, Head, Public Affairs Department, LASUTH, on Friday in Lagos.
Adepitan said that the donation was part of the NGO’s charity and the gesture was also to mark the foundation’s third anniversary.
He said that he was a colon cancer survivor, and his covenant with God gave birth to the foundation.
“We continue to receive funds requests from indigent patients from hospitals and our most pathetic finding was that children as young as three years old have one form of cancer or the other.
“This is why we are celebrating our third anniversary with these children in order to lift up their spirits and give as much financial support as we can,’’ he said.
According to him, since 2018, cancer patients at LASUTH have been a major concern to the foundation, which runs with the theme, ‘Having Cancer is not a Death Sentence’.
“This has enabled us to reach out to the society, and educate the citizens that they can live in spite of the illness,” he said.
Also, Mr Segun Olulade, former Chairman, Lagos State House Committee on Health, encouraged the public to support cancer patients with financial assistance.
He said that such humanitarian gesture should not be limited to government organisations alone.
Olulade advised the public to shun stigmatisation, while appealing to them to show genuine love and care to the sick.
In his response, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, Chief Medical Director, LASUTH, commended the foundation’s efforts in support of the indigent patients.
Fabamwo, represented by Mr Kehinde Gbajumo, Director, Hospital Administration, assured the foundation that the donation would be utilised to provide quality care for the children.
