Akeem, a former youth leader in a mosque, is facing severe threats after converting from Islam to Christianity on December 8, 2013. Once a respected figure in his community, his decision caused unrest among Islamic leaders, who feared his conversion might influence others. Since his conversion, Akeem’s family has disowned him, and he has received threatening calls, been followed by unknown individuals, and now lives in fear. Despite changing his name to Kim Olorunsesan, the harassment persists.
In a recent attack on November 3, 2016, Kim’s house was burned down. Neighbours reported seeing two suspicious individuals in a car without license plates near the house shortly before the fire began.
Kim has also been barred from some churches due to pressure from Islamic community members. “I don’t want to die,” he said, appealing for protection as his life remains in danger.
The incident highlights the urgent need for authorities to safeguard religious freedom and ensure Kim’s safety
