A two time House of Assembly member, under the People Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Friday Sani, representing Igalamela-Odolu, Local Government of Kogi State and other members loyal to him has defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Sani, while speaking to Journalist, said the decision of defection came after three weeks consultation with stakeholders in this constituent.
He explained that, “I was still the member of the PDP up till 2 hours ago when the membership card of the PDP was actually torn and I actually changed my party to the All Progressive Congress APC, and I didn’t do this alone. I did deep in full consultation of my people, I have a very large followership. The discussion for decamping that took place today started two to three weeks ago and ever since then I was consulting with my people, and today history is made as I decided to change my political party to APC.”
Reacting on his new found relationship with the Governor of Kogi State, Sani, disclosed that “well I think that is thing of the past. I had a very rough with my governor in the past and the intervention of the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress has cemented a new relationship between myself and the governor as I speak to you now we are now brothers.
“I can assure that with the current intermediary role by the National Chairman of APC, I am very sure that rough road will not come between me and him anymore.”
The former Lawmaker added, “Well I say it without fear or favour here that any moment from now you may not have a political party in my local government where I come from, because of the kind of overwhelming followership that I have I’m beyond my local government.”
“I assure you that several members of the People Democratic Party both at the state level and the local government level will collapse the structures for my sake, and for moving to the APC again, let me place it on the record that as far as I’m concerned, and those who believe in the ambition of governor Yahaya Bello for President are totally endorsed by me”, Sani said.
He further said, “Yahaya Bello has created history in our state in Kogi state. This is the first time a kogite built up the courage to say I want to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. With this history I have no alternative than to go with him, after all, I don’t have an Igala man who has the same ambition, so if a Kogi man will become president, why not? All I need is what belongs to me, and if what belongs to me is given to me, my people, the igala people, I don’t have any problem with the Presidential ambition of Yahaya Bello.”
