Former Bayelsa LP guber candidate joins APC

The Labour Party (LP) candidate for Governor of Bayelsa in the 2023 election, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

Eradiri explained that President Bola Tinubu had supported numerous developmental projects in his Agudama/Ekpetiama community within Yenagoa Local Government Area, adding that these efforts were key in his decision to join the APC.

He highlighted that, through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, his community had benefited from various infrastructure projects, including the provision of potable water, shore protection, solar lights, and the construction of a one-kilometre road.

Eradiri further pointed out that nearly all communities in the Niger Delta had gained from the NDDC’s “Operation Light-Up Niger Delta” initiative and other projects aimed at improving the region.

He stated that the Tinubu administration, through the NDDC, had also pledged to carry out additional projects in his community, including the renovation of a secondary school and the construction of a lodge for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

Speaking to a large crowd of APC members and residents in his ward, Eradiri praised the peace and development brought about by the President’s administration, particularly through initiatives like the Tantita Security Services and NDDC-backed projects.

He also noted the recent signing of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko Bill, and the bill establishing the University of Technology and Environment in Ogoni, both of which, he believes, would further cement the region’s peace.

“The Tinubu administration is addressing the injustices and marginalisation faced by the Niger Delta over the years. The President’s commitment is evident in the appointments of Bayelsans as the Head of Service, Minister of Petroleum, and the Managing Director of NDDC,” Eradiri said.

He commended the progress of the ongoing construction of the East-West Road, which he claimed had received more attention under the current administration than in previous ones.

With these developments, Eradiri asserted that it was only logical for him to align with President Tinubu and work alongside him in the APC to further the success of his “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He described President Tinubu as a leader he had admired for many years, recalling their shared involvement in the PRONACO Movement in 2006, which advocated for a restructured Nigeria.

Eradiri expressed his desire to contribute to the government’s efforts in revitalising and reorganising the country, particularly in promoting innovation, job creation, and economic growth through reforms in tax and governance.

He concluded by expressing his gratitude to APC members in Bayelsa for their warm reception and vowed to collaborate with all stakeholders to strengthen the party both in the state and nationally.
