Food seller docked for allegedly abducting minor

Police on Monday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Emeka Okori, before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl.

The defendant, who resides at Nos. 1 Sadiku St., Orile, Surulere, Lagos, is being tried for alleged charge of abduction of a minor.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 11 at about 8:30 pm at Shifawu Street, Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan alleged that the defendant deceitfully induced and abducted the 14-year-old girl without the consent of the guardian.

He told the court that a neighbour of the complainant informed him and his wife, days after they started looking for the 14-year-old, that she had been seen with the defendant.

He said the offence contravened Section 269 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The section stipulates 10 years imprisonment on conviction for any offender.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. I Dan-Oni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 3, for trial.
