Food security: Bauchi Govt. procures N1bn organic fertiliser for farmers

The Bauchi State Government has procured liquid organic fertiliser, worth N1 billion to farmers with a view to boosting food production in the state.

Mr Mohammmed Saidu, the Director of Agric Services, in the Ministry of Agriculture, disclosed this  on Friday.

He said that Gov. Bala Mohammmed gave approval to the ministry to procure the liquid organic fertiliser for supply to farmers at subsidised rate.

“The state government procured 23,809 liters of the liquid organic fertiliser at the sum of N99,997,800 from the company.

“We bought each liter at the rate of N4,500 and sold to farmers at subsidised rate of N2,500.

“The state government also gives 2,000 liters of the liquid organic fertiliser to farmers associations to find out how well it will work,” he said.

He said the liquid organic fertiliser was procured to boost production of crop in line with the food security policy of the country.

According to him, liquid organic fertiliser has a lot of advantages in crop production, less costly and is very convenient on the farm.

Mr Saidu said about 100 farmers and farm associations were trained and sensitised on the usage of the liquid organic fertiliser in the state.

The director advised farmers not to misuse the rare opportunity given, urging them to embrace farming as an occupation.

On his part, Mr John Hakuri, the representative of the Dynapharm International, suppliers of the fertiliser, said the liquid fertiliser boosts the quality and quantity of a plant.

“The liquid organic fertilizer is a plant growth booster which improves yields, and can be used in all forms of crops and plants.

“As the country and the entire world are advocating for massive food production, the liquid fertiliser is best for farming.

“One litre of the fertiliser covers one hectare of land, very economical and harmless to human health,” Hakuri said.
