Flood: FRCN pledges support to Borno TV, radio stations

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), has pledged support to Borno Radio Television (BRTV), to enable it to resume normal operations after the devastation caused by Maiduguri floods.

Its Director-General, Dr Mohammed Bulama, stated this on Tuesday in Maiduguri during a sympathy visit to Borno Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.

He said the Corporation would assist the stations in the rehabilitation of its facilities damaged flood.

Bulama announced by the Corporation to take over BRTV’s obsolete Medium Wave Transmitter (MW) along Bama Road in Maiduguri.

He said that Peace FM Maiduguri, an outlet of the Corporation, would step in to fill the gap left by the BRTV’s distress, adding the capacity of the FM station would be strengthened for effective broadcast service delivery.

According to Bulama, FRCN will help in rebuilding media infrastructure crucial for disseminating timely and accurate information to the public, especially in challenging times.

Responding, Tar, commended the gesture and stressed the state government readiness to collaborate with the Corporation.

He also lauded Bulama for his efforts towards improving media operations in Borno.

It will be recalled that ravaging flood submerged Maiduguri on Sept. 10, following the breakdown of spillways at the Alau dam.

The disaster submerged residential quarters,  public buildings, farmlands and displaced thousands of households.
