FirstBank kicks off 2024 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Week
FirstBank, West Africa’s leading financial institution, has officially kicked off its 2024 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, running from August 19 to August 24. This annual event reflects the bank’s commitment to fostering positive change and promoting sustainability, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In its eighth year, the CR&S Week is a dedicated period where FirstBank Group employees across Nigeria, the UK, Gambia, Sierra Leone, DRC, Guinea, Ghana, Senegal, and its pension and nominees sectors come together to support various community and environmental causes. Last year’s initiative impacted over 30,000 lives through partnerships with more than 80 charities and NGOs across eight countries. This year, FirstBank aims to deepen its impact with a series of meaningful activities.
Among the key activities is a significant tree planting campaign where FirstBank plans to plant 30,000 trees across Nigeria, progressing towards its goal of planting 50,000 trees by 2025 in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation.
he bank will also focus on women’s health in Jigawa and Plateau States by raising awareness about Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), supporting surgeries, and providing essential post-care kits. Additionally, employees will visit orphanages, internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, and other charitable organisations in Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the UK, offering support and spreading kindness.
Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, Folake Ani-Mumuney, expressed the bank’s dedication to community impact: “For over 130 years, FirstBank has been integral to the success of our customers and communities. Our 2024 CR&S Week underscores our commitment to creating a positive impact and advancing sustainable development.”
