Fire guts petrol tanker park in Kaduna — KASEMA

No fewer than 11 petrol tankers in Anguwan Mu’azu area within Kaduna metropolis, were on Tuesday, razed by fire, according to Abdullahi Hassan, Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA).

It took the combined efforts of  the Kaduna Fire Service, Dialogue,a private technology company, and Defence Industries Corporation, who mobilised five fire trucks, to contain the inferno that took four hours to put out.

Hassan, who was on the spot assessment to ascertain the level of destruction caused by the fire incident, told our Correspondent that the cause of the fire was still being investigated, even though the incident had revealed different illegal activities associated with petroleum products in the area.

“It is unfortunate that people living in the area do not know the danger associated with the illegal movement of petroleum products,” he said.

According to him, the agency would further investigate to ascertain the involvement of community members in the illegal activities that allegedly led to the fire outbreak.

“It is important to note that with this discovery, the agency will commence the assessment of the area as part of its mandate in ensuring public safety.

“So that we can advise government on what we need to do holistically, as a state, to distance people from this kind of risk,” the official said.

He warned against movement of petroleum products around residential areas, saying that those found to be involved in such movement would be sanctioned.

Eye witnesses told our Correspondent at the scene of the incident that a few people who sustained injuries had been evacuated to hospitals and clinics for attention.
