Fire destroys mobil filling station in Lagos resulting in injuries and loss of properties

A Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc filling station near Airport Hotel on Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos State, was engulfed in flames on Thursday morning, two adult males suffered severe burns, and others sustained minor injuries in the fire, which occurred around 11:00 am.

LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident and noted that the exact cause of the explosion involving a 12-ton gas truck remains undetermined. The blast damaged at least six vehicles, including both commercial and private cars.

Okunbor detailed that LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team was dispatched in response to distress calls received via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines. Upon arrival, they found the filling station ablaze. The fire was linked to the explosion of the gas truck, which also impacted several vehicles and parts of a nearby building. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The fire has been brought under control by LASEMA’s LRT and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, preventing further spread. The injured were promptly attended to by LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Team and LASAMBUS before being transferred to LASUTH for additional treatment. No fatalities were reported.
