Financial Autonomy: PASAN will not back down  —S/W Zonal VP

Following the nationwide strike triggered by the legislature arm of government’s demand for financial autonomy, members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), have been urged not to relent in the struggle.

The South/West Zonal Vice-President of PASAN, Comrade Ade-Peters Olusegun made this known on Friday during his visitation to Osun House of Assembly Complex in Osogbo.

Comrade Olusegun expressed happiness on the compliance level of Osun House of Assembly and other states like Oyo, Ondo and Ogun.

According to him, “the strike is necessary because of what it contains to have autonomy in all the State House of Assemblies in Nigeria. This is an assault on the Mr President Order 10 not to comply with the sitting governors.

“And this is not called for at all. We can not fold our arms for wrong things,” he added.

Olusegun advised members across the South/West states not to take laws into their hands rather the laws to be effective.

Noting that there should be autonomy for the first arm of government at all cost, he said, “If there is no legislature, there is no democracy in any land. For us to defend democracy, there must be a defence for the legislature.”

The VP further said, “All Speakers across the states should allow laws to speak and do the needful. With the financial autonomy of the house of assembly, parliamentarian can perform their roles and fundamental duties very well.

“There is no going back on legislature autonomy while noting that the association has laid hands on the plough and cannot leave it.”
