Financial Autonomy: Collaborate with governor’s forum – Nasarawa Speaker tells PASAN
The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, has urged the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) to collaborate with the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF) in delivering democracy dividends.
This, he said, is in order to ensure full implementation of Financial Autonomy for State Houses of Assembly in the country.
The speaker made the call while receiving the national leadership of PASAN, led by its National President, Mr Mohammed Usman, in his office in Lafia on Tuesday.
He appreciated them for identifying with him on his emergence as Speaker of the 7th Assembly and assured of his commitment to continue to prioritise the welfare of its members in the state.
“I want to sincerely thank God and thank you for identifying with me as Speaker of the House.
“What we have achieved in the House was as a result of our unity and cooperation among ourselves and other staff,” he said.
Jatau commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the House, noting that the legislative arm has good understanding and smooth working relationship with the governor.
“I want to commend Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the House and for approving the absorbing of over 100 casual staff of the assembly.
“I also want to commend Rt.Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the former Speaker; he has done well for this assembly, these facilities were possible as a result of his struggle,” the speaker said.
Jatau assured of his continued readiness to prioritise the welfare of the legislative staff.
“I will go to any length if it is for the welfare of staff of the Assembly as when you motivate staff, there will be optimal productivity,” he said.
Jatau also appreciated Mr Suleiman Oshafu, the state Chairman of PASAN, for uniting its members and called for its sustenance.
The speaker assured the national leadership of PASAN of his readiness to support them to successfully host the association’s National Executive Council meeting in the state later this year.
Mr Mohammed Usman, the National President of PASAN, had earlier said that the visit was to congratulate Jatau on his emergence as Speaker of the 7th Assembly.
“We are here to congratulate you on your emergence as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly,” he said.
He said that the visit was also to appreciate the House for being among the crusaders for the establishment of State House of Assembly Service Commission.
The president congratulated the House for absorbing its casual staff into permanent and pensionable appointments.
The president also appreciated the speaker for giving attention to the welfare of the parliamentary staff.
Usman however called on the members of the association to continue to give their maximum support to the speaker to enable him succeed.
He also appealed to the speaker to support the association as it would host its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting this year.
Earlier, Alhaji Suleiman Oshafu, the state PASAN Chairman, appreciated the speaker and management of the House for prioritising the welfare of its staff.
“When Rt. Hon Danladi Jatau was elected and inaugurated as the Speaker of the House, he called for a meeting with the staff and asked us to submit our problems.
“The Speaker is workers friendly, we can’t appreciate you enough,” he said.
The PASAN chairman assured of his readiness to give the speaker maximum cooperation and support to succeed.
