The Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers Nigeria (FIDA), Plateau branch, Mary Izam, says 28 cases of various sexual offences were recorded in the state between July and September.

Izam who disclosed this in an interview with Newsmen on Thursday in Jos, said that the offences comprised gang rape, abuse of minors and other forms of sexual offences.

She also revealed that 13 of such offenders had been charged to court, while 15 cases were pending in the police stations waiting to be charged to court.

The chairperson lamented that the challenge of cases being delayed at the police before the cases were charged to court was a major impediment to the fight against sexual offences.

Izam advised girls be careful and should know when to go out due to the incessant cases of sexual offences.

She further advised that girls should learn to walk in groups and also ensure that they had whistles in their bags, which they could blow when they were accosted by violators.
