The Federal Government has trained no fewer than 57 Independent Monitors to monitor beneficiaries of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) and effective implementation in Taraba.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, made the disclosure in a statement by the Deputy Director of Information in the Ministry, Mrs Rhoda Iliya, on Monday in Abuja.
The minister, who was represented by Chief Administrative Officer in the ministry Wiyeh Silas, said the monitors were not government workers but youths engaged in their communities to monitor the beneficiaries of the programmes.
She urged them to be patriotic, honest and sincere in the discharge of their duties.
The minister also warned against fraudulent activities, adding that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted by the security agencies.
The NSIP Spokesperson in Taraba, Mrs Beatrice Kichitna, commended the minister and her team for bringing on board independent monitors to ensure full implementation of the NSIP.
She enjoined them to learn what they were thought to ensure the success of the programme.
The state Director, National Orientation Agency, Mr Bitrus Nyama, said the agency was saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and gathering information and feedback from the public on government policies, programmes and achievements.
Nyama, who said NOA would be working with other security agencies to monitor the activities of the Independent Monitors, called for the cooperation of participants for the success of NSIP in the state.
Our Correspondent reports that the NSIP was introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 with the vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by the year 2030.
The Programme has four components, the N-Power, National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.
