At least 80,000 farmers would benefit from the Federal Government support for wheat farming in Jigawa State in the 2024/2025 dry season farming cycle.
The State Co-ordinator of the project, Engineer Sale Salisu, disclosed this while on a tour to monitor the distribution of farm inputs to Wheat farmers in Tsakuwawa in Jahun LGA, of the state.
Engr. Salisu noted that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has assured farmers that the lapses experienced during the previous distribution of farm inputs would not be repeated.
He said under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme & Agro-Pocket (NAGS&AP) Inputs Packages for 2024/25 Dry Season, more than 60, 000 dry season farmer are being supplied fertilizer, improved seedlings and insecticides at highly subsidized rates across the state.
However, some farmers complained of delay in the distribution exercise which they claimed was affecting the wheat farming in the state.
A farmer, Umar Abbas Dutse, said that he has been going to the centre to access the items but has been unable to get the items to enable him utilise them on time in his farm.
According to Salisu, some farmers’ uncooperative attitude led to the delay in the distribution of the materials, assuring that everything was being done to endure that every eligible farmer captured would receive their packages.
He added that Jigawa has about 80,000 allocations from the federal government because of its lead position in wheat farming in the country.
