FG to prioritise educational advancement of the deaf – NCPWD

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) says the Federal Government will give priority to the educational advancement of the deaf in the country.

The Executive Secretary, Dr James Lalu, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf led by its Vice-President Mr Haruna Mohammed.

The method of impacting knowledge and education of the deaf is usually administered through sign languages.

Lalu told the delegation that NCPWD had been in the forefront in mainstreaming disability inclusion, especially on issues associated with the education of the deaf, within the disability communities.

He, therefore, assured the delegation that the commission would continue to canvass the empowerment and educational advancement of the deaf.

In his response, Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary for his unwavering commitment towards the welfare and wellbeing of Persons With Disabilities in the nation.

He said, the aim of the visit was to inform the executive secretary of the forthcoming National Summit on deaf.

He said, the summit, expected to hold on March 13, would bring to the fore issues affecting the deaf community and proffer solutions on the best way to empower them as well as support their education
