FG reiterates commitment to eradicating petroleum products smuggling, others

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva says the Federal Government is committed to eradicating smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
This according to him is to ensure energy sufficiency in Nigeria.
Sylva, who said this at the 16th Edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari Score Card Series in Abuja, said stringent measures had been put in place to tackle the menace.
The minister said measures such as improved technology, PMS equalisation to close differential cost and routine end-to-end tracking of petroleum products cargos using Lloyds List Intelligence and Refinitiv had been deployed.
On other progress made to ensure energy sufficiency, he said, “255,659 truck out have been equalised, 11,622,926,494 litres equalised, approximately N173, 200, 284, 779 equalisation paid and 1, 277 supplying vessels tracked.
“Also, 25,525,688,042 litres of PMS has been discharged with 66.7 million litres average daily sufficiency and 24,346,614,589 litres total truck out volume.”
Syiva said part of the nine mandates, which the ministry had made tremendous progress on included completion of gas flare commercialisation programme, increment in crude oil production to three million barrels per day.
Other mandates according to him are, reduction in the cost of crude oil extraction by at least five per cent, agressive promotion of passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill and Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Amendment.
He further said others were, “working with private sector operators to increase domestic refining capacity, collaboration with private sector to create many well-paying jobs and implementation of a strategy toward taking 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
“Top priorities to take 100 million out of poverty in 10 years are youth training, skills development and empowerment, corporate social responsibility, industry driven training and talent acquisition, bid rounds and cost reduction.”
On some burning issues in the industry such as petroleum product supply, establishment of modular refineries and rehabilitation of existing refineries, Sylva said tremendous progress had been made.
On subsidy regime, the minister said subsidy was not sustainable.
He said removal of subsidy would go a long way in freeing funds for other developmental projects that would lead to the growth of the country.
The minister said the ministry was committed to delivering a thriving oil and gas industry, while ensure an enabling environment to improve the oil and gas value chain driven by modern technology among others.
Newsmen reports that the score card series was coordinated by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed.
The event was attended by stakeholders in the oil and gas sector as well as heads of media organisations.

Osun Govt commences rehabilitation of Cooperative College, Ode-Omun

The Osun State government has commenced the rehabilitation of Cooperative College, Ode-Omun.

The Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Prince Bayo Ogungbangbe made this known when he visited the school for an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the college.

He said Governor Ademola Adeleke took a decisive step to have initiated the rehabilitation of the Cooperative College, stating that the institution had been abandoned by the previous administration.

According to him, the state government has commenced the rehabilitation of the abandoned college which would soon be completed while educational activities would commence after the rehabilitation.

Ogungbangbe noted that the Governor Adeleke’s administration recognised the importance of reviving the college to provide quality education and empower the youths of Osun State.

The commissioner commended Governor Adeleke for his unwavering commitment to the educational development of Osun State.

“The rehabilitation of the Cooperative College signifies the administration’s dedication to providing accessible and high-quality educational opportunities for the people of Osun State.

“The revival of the Cooperative College aligns with the government’s objective of empowering the youth through education and skill development,” he said.

Ogungbangbe emphasised the pivotal role institutions like Cooperative College play in fostering growth, empowering communities, and driving sustainable development.

He urged the people of Osun State to support Governor Adeleke’s administration in its efforts to revitalise the educational sector, and emphasised the positive impact the initiative will have on the youth, the community, and the state as a whole.

FCCPC shuts Chinese supermarket over discrimination

The Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed up an Abuja-based Chinese supermarket situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce.

The FCCPC officials shut the supermarket when they stormed the premises on Monday. The commission’s officials sealed up the place after interrogating Nigerian workers at the supermarket.

Earlier on Sunday, Nigerians had expressed outrage over a discriminatory policy implemented by the Chinese Supermarket which restricted entry exclusively to its citizens and barred Nigerians.

The facility manager of the complex Shaibu Sanusi confirmed that Nigerians from outside the complex do not shop but Nigerians within can access it.

While the supermarket remains shut, the consumer protection agency seems to believe that some people are hiding inside in a bid to avoid confrontation with the agency.

LASG resumes annual ministerial press briefing today

The Lagos State government is set to resume its annual ministerial press briefing, starting today, to unveil the projects and accomplishments of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration; the exercise was suspended three years ago.

The month-long program will feature each ministry, department, and agency in the state briefing the media on their achievements over the past year and outlining their plans for the future.

Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, highlighted that the decision to revive the annual event was aimed at keeping Lagosians informed about the projects undertaken by Governor Sanwo-Olu since his re-election for a second term in office.

He added that this year’s briefing, which will be held between April 23 and May 28, will prelude the one-year anniversary of Governor Sanwo-olu’s second term in office.

He said, “At the ministerial briefing, we would inform Lagosians on what we had done in the last one year and other projects we are working on, such as the Lekki Airport, the fourth mainland bridge among other iconic projects.

“Each ministry will tell Lagosians what they have done and what to expect from them in another year.”

The Commissioner expressed confidence in the readiness and ability of the commissioners and head of agencies to deliver at the briefing.
