FG purchases 70 CNG buses from local producer

The Federal Government has received 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company as part of efforts to improve the country’s transportation sector. This was announced by the Nigerian automobile manufacturer in a statement on Monday.

The buses, which run on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and premium motor spirit (PMS), are expected to offer affordable and comfortable transportation for Nigerians. The handover ceremony took place at Jet Motor Company’s plant in Ajah, Lagos State, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives from the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas.

Dimas Hamidu, Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, praised the vehicles’ quality and commended Jet Motor Company for their work. He noted that these hybrid buses demonstrate President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to easing the impact of fuel subsidy removal and addressing transportation needs.

Hamidu expressed satisfaction with the buses, stating they would help mitigate the economic challenges and transportation issues faced by citizens. He also mentioned that the Federal Government has contracted multiple companies to supply CNG vehicles and acknowledged Jet Motor’s adherence to contract terms.

Jet Motor Company’s Managing Director, Derek Ewelukwa, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to improving transportation efficiency. He highlighted that each hybrid bus features two CNG tanks with a total capacity of 220 liters and a petrol tank of 80 liters, capable of traveling 300 kilometers on CNG. The CNG tanks are designed to last 15 years, and the engine seamlessly switches between gas and petrol.
