The Director General (DG) of National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment aimed at curbing the unemployment problem in the country, describing it as plausible.

The DG stated this Tuesday in Port Harcourt while welcoming 30 beneficiaries into a 4-day intensive Basic Business Training (BBT) programme on Entrepreneurship Development Scheme(EDS), organised by  the Small Scale Enterprises (SSE) Department of NDE.

Represented by the Rivers State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Maureen Okeji, the DG said the scheme was a well thought out programme to teach beneficiaries on how to manage waste and turn it to wealth.

Mallam Fikpo who said Rivers was among the few states in first phase of the programme, urged the trainees to make maximum use of this rare opportunity to better their lives.

“Rivers State is among the first phase of the Basic Business Training and it is meant to facilitate the basic training for beneficiaries to acquire skills to start their own businesses and create wealth.

“This is in line with the Federal Government’s ideals to curb unemployment, which will also save the applicants the hassles of looking for nonexistent white collar jobs,” Fikpo said.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity offered by the BBT scheme.

In his remarks, the Director, Small Scale Enterprises (SSE), Mr Apakasa Sunday who was represented by Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Ajanah, said SSE Department was determined to train the beneficiaries on how to make money.

Describing the beneficiaries as being lucky to have been selected, tasked them to be attentive and make the best  of the opportunity.

Also speaking, former lawmaker at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Friday Nubari Nke-ee lauded the NDE for the lofty programme and challenged the trainees to prove their mettle by reciprocating the Federal Government’s gesture.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr Peter Okon thanked the Federal Government and NDE for the programme. He assured that they would not let the nation down.
