FG plans to employ audit firm for Discos debt repayment – Zakari

By Uthman Salami

The Federal Government has said that it was working to develop  suitable modalities for the repayment of outstanding bills it owed power Distribution Companies (Discos) of Nigeria.

This disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Infrastructure, Ahmad Zakari.

The Federal Government’s indebtedness to the DisCos is estimated to be in the region of over N100 billion.

On several occasions, DisCos had cried out over the growing debt profile of the Federal Government during the recent inspection visits to their stations by the Senate Committee on Privatisation.

The Adviser to the president, however, said the Federal Government has engaged the services of an audit firm to reconcile electricity bills from the Distribution Companies (DisCos).

Zakari disclosed that: “Both the DisCos and governments are reconciling the figures using reputable audit firms. It would be prejudicial to communicate numbers pre-verification. We don’t want to mislead the public”
