FG partners Google to launch N100m fund to bolster innovation in AI

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has partnered with a global technology giant to launch a N100m fund to bolster innovation in Artificial Intelligence in the country.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani made this known on Tuesday in Lagos.

The fund in collaboration with Google is aimed at supporting Nigerian startups leveraging AI to build innovative solutions.

The AI Fund, which will be coordinated by the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR) according to Tijani is a critical step in taking advantage of future technologies to develop homegrown innovation that addresses local challenges, accelerates economic growth, and contributes significantly to the development of the global technology ecosystem.

“By supporting our startups, we are not only investing in their success, but also in the future of Nigeria’s digital economy,” Tijani noted in a post on his X, formerly Twitter, handle.

The funding is expected to provide funding of up to N10 million per startup and connect to Google’s vast network and opportunities for global exposure.
