FG ‘ll continue to support Chevron’s gas supply programmes – Ekpo

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to supporting ongoing efforts by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) at boosting gas supplies to the domestic market in Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by Spokesman for the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr Louis Ibah, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The statement said that the said that the minister, Mr Ekperikpe Ekpo, stated this at a meeting with the CNL team, led by its Managing Director, Mr Jim Swartz.

Ekpo said that the meeting was aimed at getting an update on CNL’s efforts to domesticate the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) produced from its escravos facility.

He stated that the meeting also aimed to boost the company’s efforts to deliver more natural gas to Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

The minister said that he had recently ordered the domestication of all LPG (cooking gas) produced within the country, with the aim of stabilising gas price in the domestic market.

According to him, there is the need for international oil companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria to focus on exports of gas.

“The companies should also focused on showing concern and be involved in the federal government’s aspiration of ensuring that Nigerians enjoy the dividend of the country’s huge gas resource through increased volumes of gas supplies to the domestic market,” he said.

The minister appreciated CNL for being a good corporate citizen and for dedicating more volumes of its gas to the domestic gas market.

He also assured the oil firm of government’s support to achieving its gas projects in the country.

Earlier, Swartz had restated Chevron’s unwavering commitment to supporting the federal government’s aspiration to produce affordable, reliable and cleaner energy.

He said that the cleaner energy would enable human progress, evidenced by its recent execution of the Project Panther funding agreement with its Joint Venture’s Partner, NNPC Limited and other efforts, to improve its delivery of natural gas.
