Federal Government at the weekend landed the initiative of the Delta state government in her continued support for local Industries, saying that the state had also provided avenue for the establishment of local enterprises and partnership with the Federal government in the direction of providing employment not only for Deltans but for other Nigerians.
Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo who spoke to Journalists at the Commissioning ceremony of Wichtech Roof Titles Manufacturing Plant Limited in Okpanam Community near Asaba, Delta state, said that the N1.5billion Plant was a good example to other businesses and investors to emulate, adding that it sends a strong signal that Nigeria is open for business
He said” I would like to commend the Chairman of Wichtech Industries Limited, Dr Wilson Chidozie Nwankwo for the great work and accomplishment over the years, and it’s an attestation to hard work and efforts of the leadership of the Company, that since its establishment over 20 years ago, an indigenous like Wichtech Industries now has offices across the state and the federation with a workforce of over 12000 people”
According to the minister,” It’s gratifying to note that Wichtech Industries has ensured that high quality roofing title that are usually imported will now being manufactured locally in this factory here in Nigeria, we are Confident that this new enterprises will create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people of the state’’
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in his remarks, said that his administration was committed to creating an enabling environment for Industries and Same Scale enterprises to thrive in the state, adding that the state will collaborate with the Federal Government to give the Industry the necessary support to create Jobs for the people of Delta state as private sector remains the highest employers of Jobs in the world
Earlier, the Chairman of Wichtech Industries Limited, Dr Chidozie Nwankwo had highlighted the frustrations associated with doing business in the country such as high bank interest rates, multiple taxation regime and epileptic power supply among others and appealed to the Federal and state governments to look into the Challenges with a view to creating an enabling environment for investors and encouraging local production of goods.
He expressed optimism that the Challenges will be addressed even as he revealed plans by the Company to expand its scope of business with the establishment of another company for the production of electricity cables, adding that” the Journey up to this point has not been easy not with the very high import duties, multiple taxes, lack of steady and reliable power supply, all of which make it almost a regrets to venture into production in the country”
