FG committed to effective border control, staff welfare – Immigration CG

The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS),  Kemi Nandap,  says the Federal Government is committed to effective border control and working condition of officers and men at the borders.

Nandap said this when she visited some borders in Katsina and Jigawa  in continuation of  her assessment tour of the Nigerian borders.

A statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo on Saturday in Abuja,  stated that Nandap  visited Fago Patrol Base and  Daura Forward Operational Base.

Others are Kongolam Border control post and  Magatari Control Post where she inspected the ongoing e-border projects and other facilities.

“She solicited the support of some critical stakeholders at the border communities, which included traditional leaders, youth leaders, transport unions and market women.

“Nandap called  for their cooperation in safeguarding the borders especially the vast unmanned areas.

“She enlightened them on the dangers of trans border organised crimes such as smuggling of migrants and Trafficking in persons,” she said.

Nandap emphasised on the need to always provide useful information on the activities of irregular migrants.

“She called for continued collaboration in the task of effective border governance noting that, “A safe border is a safe nation”.

The immigration boss charged border officers to display utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties, and to be extra vigilant in manning the  borders.

She said that government was committed to improving the working condition of all officers at the borders,  through provision of logistics, accommodation and capacity building.

The CG used the opportunity to visit former President, Muhammadu Buhari and the Emir of Daura,  Alh.  Umar Farouk, in  Daura.

Kunle Ahmed elected as 26th president of NIA

The CEO of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, Kunle Ahmed has been elected as the 26th President of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) at the association’s 53rd Annual General Meeting in Lagos.

In his acceptance speech, Ahmed called for the support of all stakeholders in the insurance industry to ensure his success. He expressed gratitude to past chairmen for their foundational work and thanked his colleagues in the Governing Council, member company CEOs, and the association’s Director General, management, and staff.

“I also seek your invaluable support as I pledge my total commitment to the ideals of the Association so that our Association will continue to remain a strong pillar of support to her members.”

Ahmed also announced the appointment of Mrs. Bola Odukale as the new Director-General/CEO of the NIA, who started her role on May 2, 2024. He requested collaboration from members to help her advance the association.

He concluded by praising the outgoing Director-General/CEO, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, for her outstanding service to the association, highlighting her commendable performance in leading the NIA Secretariat and elevating the association to a prominent position in the financial services sector. He also noted her upcoming presidency at the Chartered Insurance Institute, wishing her continued success.

He said, “It is no longer a secret that she will assume the presidency of the Chartered Insurance Institute in a bit, and we wish her a resounding success.”

NNPC announces business pitching exercise for NYSC members

The NNPC Foundation has pre-qualified 2,659 National Youth Service Corps members across Nigeria for the final phase of its Business Pitching Exercise.

This is in line with a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer

This exercise is part of the NNPC Foundation’s Financial Literacy program, which aims to empower Nigerian youths.

It said over 284,000 corps members participated in the program, undergoing rigorous training and assessments.

The final phase of the Business Pitching Exercise is scheduled to take place from July 2 to 10, 2024.

During this phase, the pre-qualified corps members will have the opportunity to showcase their business ideas and compete for funding.

The NNPC Foundation’s Financial Literacy program aims to equip Nigerian youths with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in business and entrepreneurship.

Speaking on the exercise, the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the selection criteria would focus on the feasibility and sustainability of the business idea, market relevance, competitive edge and innovation, scalability, the potential impact on the community, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the corps members

“We have identified these 2,659 individuals who are ready to present their business ideas to a distinguished panel of assessors,” Arukwe stated.

Arukwe informed that the Financial Literacy Programme is aligned with the NNPC Foundation’s mission of equipping young Nigerian graduates with the necessary skills for personal and professional development.

“By educating corps members on financial management and entrepreneurship, the program aims to empower them to become economically self-sufficient and to contribute positively to society,” she added.

During the pitching exercise, projects that stand out will receive startup packs, business advisory services, and opportunities to scale their ventures.

In a related development, the management of the NNPC Foundation has facilitated a significant 50 per cent reduction in the registration fee for corps members’ businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The NNPC Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited. Its initiatives focus on enhancing Nigeria’s socio-economic development through targeted interventions in education, health, the environment, access to energy and youth empowerment to foster economic empowerment, promote entrepreneurship, and support sustainable development across the nation.

Tinubu appoints eight new Permanent Secretaries

President Bola Tinubu on Friday, approved the appointment of eight new Federal Permanent Secretaries.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the president’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale

He said the permanent secretaries were appointed to fill in existing and impending vacancies of some states and geo-political zones in the top administrative cadre of the Civil Service of the Federation.

According to Ngelale, they were appointed after a diligent selection process by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The new Permanent Secretaries are, Dr. Emanso Umobong Okop – Akwa-Ibom, Obi Emeka Vitalis – Anambra, Mahmood Fatima Sugra Tabi’a – Bauchi, Danjuma Mohammed Sanusi – Jigawa, Olusanya Olubunmi – Ondo, Keshinro Maryam Ismaila – Zamfara, Akujobi Chinyere Ijeoma (South-East), Isokpunwu Christopher Osaruwanmwen (South-South).

“The President anticipates that the new Federal Permanent Secretaries will exercise absolute dedication, diligence, and fidelity to the nation in the discharge of their functions and ensure optimum service delivery to the Nigerian people”, the statement added.
