FG commissions seven digital projects to boost Nigeria’s economy, national security
As part of its effort to promote digital Economy and National Security, the federal government has on Friday Commissioned 7 projects which includes; Emergency Communication Centers, E-learning Facilities and Tertiary institutions.
The projects were commissioned by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami on Friday.
In statement made available to NewsDirect by the Minister’s Spokesperson, Suleiman Uwa, the projects are under batch 11 of completed digital economy infrastructure include; four digital economy centres with e-learning facilities, domiciled in Abia, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom and Oyo states, a Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre (TIKC) located in Gombe state, a School Knowledge Centre in Borno state and an Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) in Kogi State.
Pantami speaking during the virtual commissioning, said “All projects are in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, NDEPS, for a Digital Nigeria and the Federal Government’s key objectives of improving security, reducing corruption and expanding the economy.
The Minister noted that the sector had witnessed unprecedented growth both infrastructurally and policy – wise within two years of his assuming office. According to him, more than 1,667 Centres have been Established and 16 Policies Developed to Support the Digital Economy
“When we came on board in August of 2019, the ministry had only one valid policy which was sponsored by the Korean Integration and Cooperation Agency, KOICA. But within the time we have been in office, we have developed sixteen national policies and established over one thousand six hundred and sixty seven digital economy centres. Of the sixteen policies we have developed, twelve are already being implemented while four are awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council
“Our goal is to have at least one Emergency Communication Centre in each state of the federation including FCT. This will ensure that there is an effective emergency response to cater to the needs of our citizens.” he concluded.
