FG, Boeing forge agreement to enhance Nigeria’s aviation sector

In a strategic move to address the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector, particularly the critical issue of aircraft shortages, Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing, one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

The announcement, made by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, on Thursday, reveals that the agreement encompasses a range of initiatives aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s aviation industry. This includes comprehensive training programs in airline operations and business models designed to enhance the efficiency and practices of Nigerian airlines.

The MoU was signed by Keyamo and Anbessie Yitbarek, Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, in the presence of key Nigerian aviation stakeholders. This group included executives from Nigerian airlines, the leadership of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and representatives from the Airline Operators of Nigeria, among others.

A central feature of the agreement is the facilitation of aircraft acquisition. Boeing will utilize its extensive network of financiers and lessors to assist Nigerian airlines in acquiring new-generation Boeing aircraft, thus modernizing their fleets. The partnership will also include enhanced technical support to ensure the smooth integration of these new or used aircraft into existing operations.

Additionally, Boeing will provide Nigerian airlines with access to a comprehensive array of maintenance documents, engineering drawings, parts purchasing information, and flight operations materials, which will help streamline maintenance practices and minimize operational downtimes.

The agreement also includes on-site Field Services Representation in Nigeria or nearby locations, offering immediate support to airlines as they address operational challenges. Furthermore, a leadership-development training program will be introduced to cultivate a strong leadership pipeline within Nigerian airlines
