FG approves new salary, allowances increase for NIMC’s workers
…Approves N25bn Identity infrastructure upgrade
Federal Government on Thursday has approved new salary, allowances increase for management and staff of National Identity Management Commission(NIMC) as a result of its centrality in driving Nigeria’s Digital Economy.
Also the FG has approved N25bn for the upgrade of Identity infrastructure across the country.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami made this known during the public presentation ceremony of new salary scale, condition of service for NIMC’s workers in Abuja.
He said NIMC’s workers will now earn triple of what they currently take-home monthly including robust allowances.
The Minister disclosed that implementing the new salary scale, condition of services have been central to him since the Commission was placed under his supervision in August 2020.
Pantami further stated that he is more concern about the welfare of workers than himself.
He called for greater commitment, diligence from NIMC workers in achieving Digital Nigeria.
“Through persistence, determination and most importantly, the support of Mr. President, we have arrived at where we are today. We now have a new Condition of Service and Salary Scale approved by Mr. President for the National Identity Management Commission.
This new Condition of Service and Salary Scale increases with over 200% the total NIMC personnel cost, a significant departure from what is currently obtainable. We are indeed grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR for the approval and directives to implement the NIMC Condition of Service and Salary Scale.
“It is hoped that the approved Condition of Service and the Salary Scale would serve as a veritable tool to re-engineer the operations, structure, and enhance NIMC’s overall functionality, productivity, and performance in line with the Nigeria Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS). As I stated earlier, I implore all staff to ensure diligence, security consciousness and dedication for the seamless operation and integrity of the National Identity Management
System (NIMS).
“This is in addition to other unprecedented achievements recorded in securing the N25 billion Federal Executive Council Approval for upgrade and replacement of the NIMC Identity Infrastructure, and the implementation of novel initiatives that have increased the registration of persons to over 62 million on the NIDB”, Pantami said.
The Minister, however, charged the Governing Board and Management of NIMC to ensure the judicious utilization of the approved funds as it is released in phases.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Director General/CEO, National Identity Management Commission(NIMC), he lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami for approving the Commission’s new condition of service and salary scale.
“The support and uncommon leadership of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali lbrahim (Patanmi) has been tremendous and quite remarkable. His tenacity and drive to ensure improved staff welfare deserves great applaud and appreciation. Under his stewardship NIMC has pushed the boundaries of excellence in achieving unprecedented enrolment records and tackled seeminalv difficult challenges head on”, he said.
Disecting the new conditions of service and Salary Scale, the General Manager Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Service Department of NIMC, Barr Hadiza Dagabana said this will include robust salary scale, allowances and fully paid paternity leave and better retirement benefits for its workers.
NewDirect gathered that with this development NIMC staff will now enjoy robust salary structure like its counterparts in Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) and National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA).
Major highlights of NIMC Condition of Service are: Information about the NIMC, its core functions, offices and departments and the reporting structure; Employment eligibility, categories, Grade Level classifications and staff obligations; Categorization and eligibility for leave; Promotion and career progression matters; Pension and retirement benefit for all categories of staff and Robust Staff emoluments.
Meanwhile, the Chairman NIMC’s Senior Staff Union, Comrade Lucky Michael appreciated President Buhari and Minister Pantami for supporting the welfare of workers.
He revealed that Pantami have been able to achieve in less than one year what NIMC could not attain for the past Nine years.
Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Elder Bako Nabasu, MD/CEO Galaxy Backbone Prof Muhammad Abubakar and Representatives of Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC), Nigerian Postal Service, Nigerian Communications Satellite(NIGCOMSAT) also commended the initiative.
Recall that on Tuesday 9th March 2021, Pantami also inaugurated improved condition of service for management and staff of National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA).
NIN has become mandatory requirement in Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigeria Immigration Service, SIM card registration in efforts to achieving NIMC’s mandate.
