FG approves new condition of service for NIMASA staff

The Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh has announced a new condition of service for staff of the agency.

Jamoh at a press conference in Lagos at the weekend disclosed that the Head of Service for the Federation has approved the brand new condition of service, even as he announced that staff of the agency any moment from now would also get increase in their salaries and other allowances.

Speaking earlier at the 2021 Day of the seafarers, Jamoh said a lot of job seekers have been calling his telephone lines and that he could no longer pick his calls with ease.

The NIMASA DG said the increase in workers welfare and condition of service is to motivate them and ensure that they continue to put in their best at the agency.

Speaking, he said “When we came into office, in less than three months, we promoted those that were due for promotion.

“Secondly, we prepared documents to ensure that we review our own condition of service and presented it to the Head of Service.

“Today, I am happy to announce that today, we have a brand new condition of service approved by the head of service for the federation with a lot of enhancement and improvement on the welfare of our own staff.

“Another issue has to do with their salaries and allowances, on this also, we have prepared a comprehensive review of our own salaries. As of now, we are getting ready, any moment from now to seek approval from the salaries and wages the commission,” he said.

Jamoh assured that NIMASA would continue to look after the welfare of its staff, and ensure that their salaries are being paid as at when due and their personal developments would be looked after.

He added that the agency would continue to improve on their professionalism in line with international best practices. While speaking earlier at the seafarers day celebrations, Jamoh said in the last 20 days, a lot of calls have been coming on his phones from people seeking job employment at NIMASA.

“In the last 15 to 20 days, I cannot pick my phone with ease, why? Everybody is scrambling to get employed at NIMASA.

“Today, NIMASA can be counted as one of the five fingers in terms of welfare in this country.”

Meanwhile, the NIMASA DG has offered a job employment to the first female Azuimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tug Boat Captain in Nigeria and the whole of West Africa, Miss Ebinipre Robinson Canus.

Jamoh said she was part of the men and women trained by NIMASA under the National Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) adding that many of them have been giving the agency and Nigeria a sense of pride.

“She is one of the first female captains in Nigeria, she has done us proud, she made first class in her own course of study and today,she emerged first female captain working with a private form under NPA PPP arrangements, but I will like to announce a special employment offer to this young lady in order to encourage others to do the best,” Jamoh stated.

Ebinipre Robinson Canus is an indigene of Bayelsa State in Nigeria and a product of the National Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP) an initiative of the NIMASA.

She works with L.T.T Coastal and Marine Services, a company providing marine services for the NPA.
