Federal Government inaugurates 2.75km road at Unilorin

The Federal Government has inaugurated a 2.75km asphalt road it constructed for the University of llorin (Unilorin) to ease intra-transportation in the institution.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, handed over the project to the university at a light ceremony.
The newsmen reports that the project is part of the 100 intervention roads embarked upon by the federal government in various tertiary institutions across the country.
The newly constructed 2.75 kilometers road, which was completed in March 2022, links the university main campus with the University of llorin Teaching Hospital (UlTH).
Represented by the Federal Controller of Works in Kwara, Mr Lasisi Adekunle-Rafiu, reaffirmed the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to salvage the challenges in the nation’s education sector.
The minister said the administration was determined to boost the quality of education by improving the quality of infrastructure.
He said the federal government is currently executing 100 intervention roads in various Tertiary Institutions in the country out of which 54 have been completed while 46 have been handed over to the beneficiary institutions.
“The Federal Government is now ready to handover another 18 completed intervention roads in various tertiary institutions, while we are currently attending to other 29 roads,” the minister said.
Fashola, who described the project as an investment in education, disclosed that 85 people were employed during the construction of the project at Unilorin to reduce unemployment.
The minister however advised the university management to maintain the project in order to serve the intended purpose.
The Vice-Chancellor of Unilorin, Prof. What Egbewole, said the road would reduce vehicle operating cost and traffic congestion.
Egbewole, who was represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Tunde Arosanyin, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the completion of the project.
He however begged the federal government to construct another road linking the university with its School of Preliminary Studies at Fufu in llorin South Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Toluwalase Faji, the Unilorin President of the Students Union Government, also expressed gratitude to the federal government over the execution of the project and solicited for more intervention.
