Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner endorses indigenous pay TV provider, SLTV
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced his endorsement of SLTV, an indigenous Nigerian pay television provider. He disclosed that approval has been granted for the installation of SLTV decoders and satellite dishes across all police divisions under the FCT Command, in a move to promote patronage of the Nigerian brand.
The approval was made during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Metrodigital Limited, the operators of SLTV, to the Commissioner’s office in Abuja. Commissioner Igweh, accompanied by his management team, directed that all six Area Commands in the territory should also benefit from this initiative, in addition to the command headquarters.
Commending SLTV for offering an indigenous alternative to expensive and monopolistic satellite pay TV services, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of ensuring that officers and men across the FCT have access to timely news and information while on duty.
“We must appreciate and support our own efforts to ensure that Nigerians enjoy good and affordable pay TV services,” said the Commissioner. “However, I urge SLTV to work towards implementing a Pay-As-You-Go model in Nigeria, as is the practice in other countries.”
In her remarks, Princess Nikky Onyeri, Chief Operating Officer of Camroll Quest Ltd, who led the delegation, explained the operations of SLTV to the Police Commissioner. She expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s support of indigenous brands and presented decoders and dishes to him.
Onyeri highlighted that SLTV offers over 50 HD channels, including 10 sports channels, showcasing live football matches from various leagues. The monthly subscription ranges from N2,500 to N5,000.
“The Police are critical stakeholders in our national life, and SLTV is eager to collaborate as a worthy partner in serving our nation,” she remarked.
The Federal Government, aiming to provide alternatives and foster competition in the satellite pay television sector, unveiled SLTV in March of this year. The launch event, held at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who lauded SLTV for offering real value for money. He pledged the government’s full support for the venture.
Just two months after its launch, SLTV has gained popularity and acceptance among Nigerian subscribers due to its affordable packages.
